Gauri Tritiya Vrat 2021

The Gauri Tritiya falls on the third day of the waxing phase of the moon in Chaitra month that is between March and April which is seen according to the Marathi Calendar. Gauri Tritiya is mainly observed by women. It is believed that on observing the Gauri Tritiya, Goddess Parvati returns to her parent’s home during this period. Gauri Tritiya commences on the first day of Chaitra and continues for 18 days. According to Purnimant based calendars in North India, this Tritiya starts on Chaitra month for fifteen days before Ugadi and Gudi Padwa festival.

Gauri Tritiya Vrat Katha History

According to the scriptures, it is believed that on adopting the rules of this fast, one gets good luck and the women will have a happy marriage and children. Also, it is found in  Puranas that Daksha receives Sati in the form of a daughter and received the results of the atonement and chanting by Sati Mata to get Lord Shiva. It is also said that Goddess Sati was married to Lord Shankar on the Tritiya Tithi of Shukla paksha. So, this fast is observed on Magh Shukla Tritiya to get the blessings of good fortune and fulfillment of all wishes.

Gauri Tritiya Vrat Significance

There is a huge significance in celebrating Gauri Tritiya Vrat, which are as follows.

  •  It is believed that Teej kind of is celebrated wherein performing fasting on this day, both women and children get happiness and girls get the desired husband. 

  • As mentioned, it is believed from the scripture that Lord Shankar and Goddess Sati were married on Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha. 

  • On Gauri Tritiya Vrat, the fast is observed to get the blessings of good fortune. 

  • In Puranas, it has been mentioned that Maa Parvati had done severe penance only after she got Lord Shiva as her husband. 

Gauri Tritiya Vrat Puja Vidhi

The fasting methods and puja observance and Vidhi that has to be followed on Gauri Tritya Vrat are,

  • On Gauri Tritiya, the fast keepers must get up before the Sunrise and should take bath after the routine work.

  • To start with Goddess Sati is vowed including Lord Shankar.

  • The idol of Goddess Sati and Shiva shroud be bathed with Pancha Gavya and Sandalwood.

  • Also, incense sticks, lamps, Naivedya, and various fruits are offered to the lord and are worshipped.

  • Lord Ganesh is also worshipped along with them by offering him water, roli, molly, sandalwood, vermilion, cloves, paan, rice, betel nut, flowers, cardamom, bell-leaf, fruit, nuts, and Dakshina.

  • The Gauri idol is bathed with water, milk, curd, wear clothes and Roli, Chandan, Sindur, Henna is applied to them.

  • The worship is done on listening to the story of Gauri Tritiya.
