Commonwealth Scholarship 2021 Application – Commonwealth Scholarship is offered to those students who hold a good academic record and cannot afford the scholarship. It is provided to pursue Masters or Doctorate programs in University of UK, Singapore, etc. Financial aid under the Scholarship will be provided until the duration of the degree program. The scholarship will not offer any financial assistance for additional semesters but will cover travel expenses, tuition fees, and other allowances.

Last Date To Apply For Commonwealth Scholarship 2021

The last date to apply for the Scholarship is February 2021. The scholarship application dates are open from December 24 to February 21. 

Eligibility Criteria For Indian Students

  • The applicant must be a Citizen of India.

  • The applicant must be a permanent resident of India.

  • The applicant must start his/her academic studies in the UK as per the UK academic year in September/October 2021.

  • The applicant should have completed or is expected to complete his/her Bachelor Degree by October 2021.

  • Those applicants who cannot afford to study in the UK will only be given the Scholarship (Candidates must sign a declaration that they cannot fund their education in the UK).

  • Candidates in abroad for studies/training/ specialization either on scholarships or on their own, for a period exceeding six months and, have been in India for at least two consecutive years as on February 21, 2021 after returning from abroad.

  • Candidates have been offered admission from a UK University for the September/October 2021 

  • Candidates who were offered admission for 2020 September/October academic session but deferred the offer by a year and the University has accepted their request to defer.

How To Apply For Commonwealth Scholarship In India?

Online applications are invited from Indian nationals for Commonwealth Scholarship 2021 in the United Kingdom for pursuing one year Master’s Degree Courses commencing from September/October 2021. 

Students can apply for the scholarship by visiting the official website – proposal.sakshat.ac.in/scholarship or by submitting their applications through a National Nominating agency. Every participating commonwealth country has its own National Nominating agency, with its own rules, eligibility, and deadlines.

The eligibility criteria for international applicants applying for the Commonwealth Scholarship program may vary according to the degree and the UK university they choose. 

Eligibility Criteria for Master’s Degree Programs

To obtain the Commonwealth Scholarship, the candidate must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree.

  • Have not applied for a Master’s course at any other university.

  • Score minimum 60% or above in Social Science and 65% in Science.

  • Should be a citizen of any commonwealth country/permanent resident in a developing Commonwealth country.

  • Should not be more than 40 years.

  • Should be able to afford to study at a university in the United Kingdom.

  • Have been offered admission to a university in any commonwealth country.

Eligibility Criteria for Ph.D. Programs

To obtain the Commonwealth Scholarship, the candidate must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Hold a master’s degree or is in the final year of the program.

  • Have not applied for a PhD level program or MPhil at any other university.

  • Score minimum 60% or above in Social Science and 65% in Science.

  • Should be a citizen of any commonwealth country.

  • Should be able to afford to study at a university in the United Kingdom.

  • Have been offered admission to a university in any commonwealth country.

  • Should not be more than 40 years.

Nomination Criteria

  • Candidates who have received the admission offer letter from any UK University must upload a copy of the offer letter on the Ministry’s portal at the time of online application.

  • If the number of applications is more than the number of nominations to be made, then the selection process will be based on the highest-ranked UK University from where the candidate has secured an offer of admission. This will be done based on ‘QS Ranking 2021’.

Selection Process

The selection of Commonwealth Scholarship recipients will be made in India, Delhi through application shortlisting, followed by personal interviews. The Ministry of Human Resource Development will carry out the selection process.

Note: Applicants and recipients of the Commonwealth Scholarship are not the recipient(s) of other British Council scholarships like Chevening Scholarship, GREAT Scholarship, etc.

Benefits of Commonwealth Scholarship

The Commonwealth Scholarship covers specific courses which the applicant can apply through the scholarship. 

Common Benefits

  • The scholarship covers airfare from home country to the UK and a return ticket after completing the course.

  • If the applicant is a single parent, they will receive child allowance of GBP 465 per month for the first child and GBP 114 for the second and third child below the age of 16 years.

  • It covers tuition fees and accommodation expenses.

  • An allowance for warm clothes.
